Erna Kosanke

It’s with great sadness that the family of Erna Kosanke announces her passing on April 14, 2018, at her home in Olympia, Wash.

A burial service will take place at Greenwood Cemetery, in Kellogg, Idaho, at 1 p.m. on April 27, 2018.

Born in Romania in 1923, Erna married Artur Kosanke and together they had four children: Karin Zeigler of Olympia, Wash.; Richard (deceased) of Osburn, Idaho; Harold of Federal Way Wash. and Werner or Coeur d’Alene, Idaho and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Along with her family, Erna immigrated to the US and settled in Kellogg. While raising her children, she worked various jobs, including at West Shoshone General Hospital and other health care facilities. She enjoyed nature, bird watching, fishing and loved animals, especially dogs and horses. She also was a great cook and was known for her homemade main dishes including strudeln, dampfnudln and many other Romanian and German delicacies.

Erna had a very strong connection to her family, especially her sister Ida. As young women, Erna and Ida met and married a pair of brothers, Artur and John Kosanke. Together, they immigrated to America and both families settled in the Kellogg area, creating a close-knit family that enjoyed many fun times together.

After Artur’s death, Erna married Walter Sedon in Pennsylvania. After many years in Pennsylvania they moved to Washington to be with family.

Erna is preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; her son, Richard; her siblings, Mathilde Pfeiffle of Stammheim, Germany; Alma Ebert of Calw, Germany; George Maas of Gechingen, Germany; Herbert Maas of Bessarabia, Romania; Adeline Regner of Hemmingen, Germany; Ida Kosanke of Mesa, Ariz.
