Bonners rallies twice to sweep Timberlake

BONNERS FERRY — Timberlake led 5-0 in the first game, but Bonners Ferry scored 12 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to win 12-5 in the first game of an Intermountain League doubleheader Saturday.

Bonners Ferry, the defending state 3A champion, won the second game 5-3, completing the sweep of the Tigers, who the Badgers beat for the state title.

Kassy Skeen hit a two-run inside-the-park homer to trigger the Badgers’ big inning in the opener. Kadi Bateman, who struck out 14, added a two-run single in the inning.

Shelby Starr hit a leadoff homer for Timberlake (6-2, 3-2 IML).

In the second game, Timberlake led 3-2 before Bonners scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Bateman, who struck out 13 in the nightcap, went 2 for 4 with two runs scored.

Starr went 4 for 4 with two doubles, a triple, an RBI and two runs scored for the Tigers.

Timberlake is scheduled to travel to Sandpoint on Monday.

OROFINO — Dakotah Wilks’ two-run single in the top of the seventh broke a 9-all tie and lifted the visiting Lumberjacks past the Maniacs in the first game of a Central Idaho League doubleheader.

In the second game, Elizabeth Ragan went 5 for 5 with an RBI and a run scored for St. Maries (5-0, 3-0). Kaylee Auer went 3 for 4 and scored twice for the Lumberjacks, and McKenna Borgman was 3 for 5 and drove in two runs.

St. Maries is scheduled to play host to Priest River on Thursday in a doubleheader.

POST FALLS — An error in the bottom of the ninth inning settled a pitchers’ duel as Post Falls edged Richland (Wash.) 2-1 on Saturday.

Earlier Bailey Gleaves hit a solo homer in the fifth inning as Post Falls beat Kamiakin of Kennewick 8-2. Gleaves finished 3 for 3 with three runs scored.

Kahlea Dumas scored the winning run for Post Falls (6-8) against Richland. She started the ninth on second base on the international tiebreaker, and scored when the Bombers committed an error on a bunt by Kaycie Barber.

Amanda Rouse struck out 10 in 8 2/3 innings of relief for Post Falls. Richland’s lone hit was a fourth inning homer that tied the game at 1.

Richland pitchers combined for 13 strikeouts and allowed just three hits.

Post Falls returns to 5A Inland Empire play Tuesday at home, vs. Lewiston in a doubleheader.
