Ronald A. Nowell

Aug. 3, 1944 — April 6, 2018

Ronald A. Nowell, 73, of Paulden, Ariz., and formerly of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, passed away on Friday, April 6, 2018, at Banner Boswell Medical Center in Sun City, Ariz., with family by his side.

Known to his friends as “Ron,” he was born on Aug. 3, 1944, in Boston, Mass., to Margaret Clark-Nowell and Preston Nowell.

Ron served in the U.S. Navy in Vietnam from 1961 to 1967. During this time he was awarded a medal for combat service. After being discharged, he served the City of Slidell as a police officer in Louisiana for three years.

He spent the majority of his life in the beautiful Northwest, in Sandpoint, Idaho, building a home and raising his family; giving back to the land as much as he took from it. He then went on to become an animal control officer and was also involved with the game and fish and enjoyed winters as an Outfitter Guide on the Salmon River.

He owned and operated his security company from 1975 until 1979; then, in the 1980s and ’90s, he worked on a variety of golf courses as their equipment service manager. In the 2000s he owned Ron’s Tractor Services.

Ron truly loved working on his boat and just being on the water any chance he could get. He also enjoyed gold panning, ATVing and country dancing. He will be greatly missed.

Ron is survived by his six sons and two daughters, Ronald Nowell, Ricky Nowell and Michael Nowell, all of Slidell, La., Don Nowell of Paulden, Ariz., Troy Nowell of Rathdrum, Idaho, Angel Benson of Paulden, Ariz., Brianna Bagne of Phoenix, Ariz., and Christopher Frye of Gillette, Wyo.; 22 grandkids and 13 great-grandkids. Ron is preceded in death by his parents.

A Military Memorial Service with Honors will be held on Tuesday May 8, 2018, at The National Memorial Cemetery, and a celebration of life service will be held in Northern Idaho on Saturday, July 14, 2018.
