COEUR d’ALENE — Nearly 60-degree temperatures, some sunshine and lots of fun activities are just a few things people can look forward to during the Earth Day celebration this weekend.

The Coeur d'Alene Earth Day Fair will be held in the Coeur d'Alene Library and in McEuen Park from noon to 4 p.m. It is taking place on Sunday, not on Saturday as in previous years.

The day's activities include recreational tree climbing, a yoga flash mob, entertainment by students from Sorensen Magnet School of the Arts and Humanities, live Birds of Prey Northwest demonstrations, a bike rodeo, a performance by the Coeur d'Alene Youth Marimba band and more.

The Community Room will be chock-full of fun and educational booths where fair-goers will be able to learn more from local organizations about protecting their environment.

This year's theme is "A World Without Plastic Pollution," with an emphasis on reducing dependence of single-use plastic.

Sharon Bosley, executive director of Kootenai Environmental Alliance, which is co-organizing the event, said the Earth Day Fair is great for kids, but also serves as an educational opportunity for adults.

"The adults can learn more about what's going on in their local environment," Bosley said Thursday. "It brings together all the positive aspects of our community to come together to foster a healthy Earth."

This is about the 16th year for the Earth Day Fair. It is free and open to all ages.

The Coeur d'Alene Library is located at 702 E. Front Ave.
