Lakeland, Sandpoint split

| April 20, 2018 1:00 AM

RATHDRUM — Dylan Bradbury and Garrett Moen drove in three runs each to spark the Lakeland Hawks past the Sandpoint Bulldogs 12-6 in the first game of a 4A Inland Empire League doubleheader at Gorton Field on Thursday.

“We had some quality at-bats, and Dylan did a good job of throwing strikes in the complete game,” Lakeland coach Jason Bradbury said. “Garrett and him had a good game at the plate. It was nice to see them square the ball up with runners on base.”

In the nightcap, Alex Stockton had three hits and three runs scored as the Bulldogs (7-3, 2-2 4A IEL) rolled past the Hawks 12-2 to get the split.

“We came out really flat in the second game and just didn’t play well in all phases of the game,” coach Bradbury said.

Lakeland (9-8, 2-2) travels to Moscow in another IEL doubleheader on May 1.

SPIRIT LAKE — Dustin Smith had two doubles, a triple and four RBIs in the opener for the Tigers in an Intermountain League sweep of the Wildcats.

Seth Villanpando went 4 2/3 hitless innings before being pulled due to pitch count regulations, but Gage Benefield retired the final out to preserve the no-hitter in the nightcap. Jacob James had three hits on the day, Darren Mullin four hits for Timberlake (7-3, 4-0 IML), which travels to Bonners Ferry for a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 11 a.m.

“Our pitchers did a really good job today and Seth’s breaking ball was on all day,” Timberlake coach Cameron Knigge said. “Dustin and Darren hit the ball really, really well for us. It was good to get into a groove and play a couple of games.”
