Area big schools compete in Ryder Cup-type golf event

COEUR d’ALENE — Teams from Lake City and Coeur d’Alene teamed up to take on a team from Post Falls and Lakeland on Thursday at the Coeur d’Alene Resort Shootout at The Coeur d’Alene Resort Golf Course.

The teams played a Ryder Cup format, playing Best Ball for the first six holes, alternate shot for the second six holes, and finishing with six holes of scramble

In the boys match, Coeur d’Alene/Lake City defeated Post Falls/Lakeland 14 1/2 to 5 1/2.

In the girls match, Post Falls/Lakeland beat Coeur d’Alene/Lake City 11-9.

COEUR d’ALENE — The Vikings took two of three matches in boys singles and girls singles to take a match against the Trojans at Coeur d’Alene High.

The doubles team of Bracken Curtis and Adam Priebe won in straight sets for Coeur d’Alene.

“They got out to a faster start and played at a level they’re capable of playing at,” Coeur d’Alene boys coach Dan O’Connor said. “It was a pretty good day for us.”

Both teams will compete in the Post Falls tournament on Saturday.

RATHDRUM — Jorge Bonacho and Jared Roth had straight-set victories for the host Hawks against the Bulldogs, as Caleb Pearson and Joe Schumacher teamed for a straight-set win in No. 2 boys doubles.

“Some hard fought matches today, and I really appreciate the effort Lakeland put into today’s matches,” Lakeland coach Tyler Jacobs said. “I’m proud of them for fighting hard today.”

Charter at IML duals

PRIEST RIVER — Coeur d’Alene Charter’s Matt Streeter claimed wins in the 100-, 200- and 400-meter dash in the Intermountain League duals at Priest River High.

Priest River’s boys locked up second in the IML with wins over Coeur d’Alene Charter and Bonners Ferry.

Kellogg’s girls finished second with wins over Coeur d’Alene Charter and Bonners Ferry.

Timberlake locked up the league title in both boys and girls last week at Kellogg.
