- BASEBALL

LEWISTON — Quinton Bunch had three of Coeur d’Alene’s 12 hits in the opener as the Vikings beat Lewiston 11-2 in the first game of a 5A Inland Empire League doubleheader Tuesday at Church Field.

In the second game, the Vikings tied the game with four runs in the top of the seventh inning without benefit of a hit, but Kyle Van Boeyen’s walk-off single gave the Bengals a 5-4 win for the split.

Brady Thompson and Caleb Beggerly each had two hits in the opener for Coeur d’Alene (9-4, 3-1 5A IEL), which blew the game open with a six-run second inning.

Three Lewiston pitchers teamed to allow two hits — by Levi Haen, who drove in the tying run in the seventh and the other by Thompson — for the Vikings in the nightcap, but the Bengals walked 11 and committed four errors.

Lewiston, which split at home vs. Lake City on Saturday, is 10-5, 2-2.
