Norma ‘Jean’ Barnes, 74

Norma “Jean” Barnes, 74, beloved mom, grandmother and friend, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 11, 2018.

Jean was born Oct. 19, 1943, in Wapato, Wash., to Paul Slade and Blanche Slade (Nestell). She had an older sister, Alice.

Jean married Dale Newton Barnes, Sr. in 1963 and together they had two daughters and one son.

Jean worked as a bookkeeper in several locations including the business that she and her husband owned, Custom Engine Rebuilders. Later in life she worked in several capacities at Coldwater Creek and made good friends while there. For many years Jean was an active member of the music community at First Presbyterian Church and the 3C’s Chorale, as well as teaching piano lessons.

Jean is preceded in death by her father, Paul Slade; mother, Blanche Slade (Nestell); husband, Dale Newton Barnes, Sr.; son, Dale Newton Barnes, Jr. and her sister, Alice.

Jean is survived by her daughters, Cindy Barnes and Dee Barnes; and her grandchildren, Hollee Barnes, Michaela Barnes, Dustin (Ivy) Barnes, Brandon Barnes, Kodi Barnes, Dawn Cole and Alan Barnes.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Coeur d’Alene or Schneidmiller Hospice House.

Memorial will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 21, 2018, at The Coeur d’Alene Inn/Best Western on Appleway Ave. in Coeur d’Alene.
