Wilfred Wallace “Bill” Thom, 96

Wilfred Wallace “Bill” Thom, 96 years old of Jesup, Iowa, and formerly of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, died Monday, March 19, 2018, at Manor Care Health Services, Waterloo, Iowa. Services will be held at a later date.

Bill was born March 4, 1922, at Anamoose, N.D., the son of William Thom and Alma (Serven) Thom. He graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School. From 1944 to 1946, he served in the U.S. Navy including time on the USS Mellette (APA 156). For his service, Bill received the; Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, the American Area Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. After returning to Coeur d’Alene he became Parts Manager at Robideaux Motors.

In 1942 he married Eileen Theodora Rheinschmidt in Coeur d’Alene. After her death on Aug. 21, 2001, he was united in marriage to Vera Roseanna Saunders until her death on July 13, 2002. While wintering in Arizona, he met Jesup’s Margaret Laurayne (Kvamme) Christopherson, and they married July 9, 2004, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa.

Bill is survived by his wife, Margaret of Jesup, Iowa; one daughter, Joellen (Ted) Rheinschmidt of Post Falls, Idaho; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Beverly Thom of Canada.

In addition to his first and second wives; one son, Jim Thom; two sisters; and one granddaughter, Rebecca Reinschmidt; preceded him in death.

Bill’s cremated remains will be placed at St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Memorials may be directed to a charity of the donor’s choice. Online condolences may be posted at www.White-MtHope.com
