LABRADOR: Not this voter

Congressman Raul Labrador is a candidate for Idaho’s governor. His personal history is compelling, and by all measures he is a good and decent man. I have been the legislative Chairman of two veteran’s organizations for more than ten years. In reply to almost every single letter we have sent to the Congressman, his reply has contained wording to this effect: “I support veterans/national defense and when a bill comes before the House I will give it very serious consideration. …” Everyone is aware that when a bill in the House is reported out of committee and sent to the floor it is generally in its final form. There is little or no further negotiating on that bill.

Nearly everyone who received a reply from Representative Labrador was left with the opinion that he had no interest in Veteran’s Affairs or the National Defense. His first duty is clearly delineated in the Preamble to the Constitution: Provide for the Common Defense.

I do not believe he is Idaho’s best choice for governor.

The governor of Idaho cannot be a one or two-subject governor. I can state that former Congressmen Chenoweth, Minnick, Otter, and Sali were able to balance the duties of their office and the contrast with Representative Labrador is startling and concerning. The governorship is no place for men of limited interests and laissez-faire attitudes. I don’t care to suffer through years of an unresponsive elected official again.
