AVISTA: Sale raises alarms

| April 13, 2018 1:00 AM

Why is America’s Avista Corporation being sold to the foreign country of Canada’s HydroOne, whose corporate headquarters are located in Toronto, eastern Canada?

Our country’s Avista Utility Company sale to Canada should be illegal and disallowed. Not only is this transaction outrageous but we American ratepayers will be forced to pay America’s highest utility rates because Canada will enforce their green laws on us.

Avista HydroOne will charge exorbitantly expensive monthly energy rates as well as multiple monthly surcharges for their charitable contributions and various other obscure fees in our energy bills. If this creates financial hardship, prepare to endure uncomfortably low indoor winter, fall and spring temperatures, with the attendant increased pneumonia, flu and colds.

We Idaho Avista ratepayers should immediately email our concerns to the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission at comments@utc.wa.gov. This sale is imminent.

Please make every attempt to attend the commissionn’s public hearing meeting April 23, 1-4:30 p.m. at the Spokane Valley City Council Chambers at 10210 E. Sprague and voice your concerns.

This imminent sale can still be stopped by the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission. We are being told that the sale is going through, but we can stop it if we will only do so.

Thank you for your efforts.
