LCHS grad dies in climbing fall

Alex Reed, who graduated from Lake City High School in 2016 and was active in the Outdoor Studies Program there, died Tuesday in a rock-climbing fall at Smith Rock State Park near Bend, Oregon. Reed is the son of Scott and Gwen Reed, who live in New Hampshire now; Gwen is the former English Department Chair at Lake City.

Reed, 20, was an avid rock climber and could frequently be seen working at the Kroc’s climbing wall where he shared his passion with those wanting to learn the sport. After graduation, he chased his dreams by moving to Bend, where he worked at a climbing gym and kept himself busy building new climbing routes and exploring all that Central Oregon has to offer a climber.

Services will be held Saturday in Bend.
