Rain, and losing your cool at once

| April 11, 2018 1:00 AM

Rainouts are pretty frustrating this time of year.

Not just locally, but around the rest of baseball.

The ones around here really aren’t much fun though.

WATCHING AS the Seattle Mariners took on the Minnesota Twins over the weekend made me wish for the days of the Metrodome.

Not just because of childhood memories of Kirby Puckett roaming center for Minnesota, but because with those games, weather was never a factor.

No matter how frigid it got outside in April.

That wasn’t the case on Sunday, as snow in the area postponed the game to later in the season when both teams had a scheduled day off.

Had the series been in Seattle — the Mariners have played three games at home so far — they’d just close the roof and get on with it.

I also felt bad for the Chicago Cubs, the final team to play at home this season, with the home opener planned for Monday.

Planned.

Thanks to a snowstorm, that game got moved to Tuesday so that the pregame festivities could go off without a problem.

Meanwhile across town, the White Sox were able to play against Tampa Bay despite the snow. Funny, the Rays also have a roof, but have been on the road for a little longer than the Mariners.

Maybe eventually those folks that set the schedule might take note and remember this for the near future.

WHO KNOWS why Conor McGregor lost it last week before a press conference for UFC 223.

We might not know.

For publicity, maybe?

To prove just how he’s still the same guy, even though he hasn’t fought in the octagon in almost two years? That’s understandable.

In case you missed it, McGregor lost his temper as a bus was carrying other UFC fighters to the arena for a press conference before last Saturday’s event in Brooklyn, N.Y.

McGregor opted to throw a hand truck at the bus window, injuring three on the bus, but it could have been a lot worse.

Unfortunately in the melee, Spokane native Michael Chiesa was hit by shards of glass and was unable to fight his scheduled bout.

The whole thing could have just been a publicity stunt to get fans talking about the upcoming pay-per-view, which it was very successful. He wasn’t on the card, but yet was the biggest story coming out of that event. And something that fans will be talking about for the near future.

What makes the whole thing interesting is that a rumor is circulating that Floyd Mayweather and McGregor might have a rematch, but this time in a mixed martial arts fight.

Where that happens might be a mystery as McGregor might not exactly be welcomed around the UFC for a while.

If it does happen, then fans will put down the money to watch it.

I’d rather keep looking out the window waiting for it to stop raining.

That might be a little more entertaining.
