Kootenai County Democrats to caucus on April 28

| April 11, 2018 1:00 AM

The Kootenai County Democratic Party will caucus April 28 in Coeur d’Alene to select 35 local delegates to send to the party’s state convention in Caldwell in June.

Paula Neils, the county party chair, said the public is invited to help select the delegates.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for Idaho Democrats to get involved with our party and have a direct say in developing our party platform for the 2018 election cycle,” Neils said, in a news release.

She encouraged the many people who attended the Kootenai County Democratic caucus in 2016 to select a presidential candidate to participate in this year’s delegate selection process.

“Delegates not only will vote on the platform but also will have ample chance to give input on the content of the platform,” Neils said. “In fact, anyone with strong feelings about what should be included in the 2018 platform should email their comments to the Idaho Democratic Party at info@idahodems.org before the convention in June. Better yet, come to run for delegate.”

The Kootenai County caucus will be held in Coeur d’Alene at the Human Rights Education Institute, 414 W. Fort Grounds Drive. The doors open for registration at 9 a.m., and the caucus begins promptly at 10.

Anyone who wants to participate as a Democrat and who will be a registered voter of the county on Nov. 6, 2018, may participate in the caucus.

In a change from past years, a Democrat does not have to be present to place their name into nomination if their signed pledge form has been submitted to the chair in advance of the caucus.

A social hour during registration will include the opportunity to visit with local Democratic candidates. Coffee and pastries will be served.
