Mott, Winn lead Cardinals to sweep

- SOFTBALL

YAKIMA, Wash. — Madi Mott and Audrey Seipert teamed on a one-hitter in the opener, and North Idaho College went on to sweep Yakima Valley College 9-0 and 15-1 in Northwest Athletic Conference softball play Sunday.

Mott pitched four hitless innings in the opener, striking out seven for NIC (22-2, 13-1 NWAC). The lone hit for YVC (6-17, 4-11) was a leadoff double by Madison Atwood in the fifth inning.

Kalyna Korok had a two-run double to highlight a six-run fourth for the Cardinals, and Devinne Amesquita added a two-run homer in the sixth.

In the second game, Ashlyn Winn went 3 for 4, drove in seven runs and scored twice for NIC. She hit a three-run homer in the fifth.

NIC plays host to Community Colleges of Spokane in a doubleheader today at 1 p.m. at Post Falls High.

POST FALLS — The North Idaho College men built a two-shot lead after the first day of the Bigfoot Invitational, hosted by Community Colleges of Spokane at The Links.

Sean Langham of NIC shot an even-par 72 and is in second place. Cardinals Todd Henderson and Jesse Henderson are tied for sixth at 74.

NIC’s women are in fourth place after the first day. Aly Mabey and Madi Brown each shot 86 and are tied for sixth.

The tourney concludes today.
