Who the heck is this Cameron guy?

| April 7, 2018 1:00 AM

The theme of “A Brand New Day,” right from the start, was that the focus should be on you — not me.

This is your show, except …

Just this once, I’m going to break down and answer some personal questions.

There are a stack of ’em piled up here, and just this week, a reader who shall stay anonymous wrote: “I really enjoy the columns, but we don’t know who you are, really, except that you mentioned you have a cat. Can’t you fill in a few more blanks?”

Sigh …

We’ll do this in a Q&A format, using the questions I get asked most often. But don’t expect this regularly, OK?

Q: How old are you?

A: I live by the words of baseball immortal Satchel Paige, who said: “How old would you be if you really didn’t know?” Therefore, I don’t know — but I’d guess I’m maybe in my early to mid-40s.

Q: Are you from California like everyone else?

A: That’s where I was raised, but I didn’t stay. After a stint in the Air Force, I basically spent most of my life in the Midwest — along with a few years in Scotland. I moved here from Manhattan, Kan.

Q: Are you a media liberal who voted for Hillary?

A: Nope, I’m a registered independent who supports people and issues on an individual basis. As for the 2016 election, I voted for a lot of people — but no one running for president. Couldn’t do it. Trump and Clinton were the two most unpopular candidates in history for a reason. And by the way, local media here (The Press) is neither liberal nor anything else but objective.

Q: You wrote a sports column for a while and I liked it. Were you an athlete, and why did you quit doing that sports piece?

A: Yes, I was an athlete (mostly baseball and basketball). Could have pitched professionally, but wouldn’t have made the big time. Not enough velocity. As for the column I was doing here, we just sort of stopped it when I began this gig. Let me ask the boss about that one.

Q: Do you believe in the Second Amendment as much as you do the First Amendment?

A: Ah, political science class. I respect them both, but wonder how they’re being interpreted. The Supreme Court’s “Citizens United” decision makes me nervous, because it gives corporations the same right as people under the First Amendment — and that can be abused. The Second Amendment should be enforced as written. You’re entitled to own firearms.

Q: Are you a skier, a golfer or outdoors guy?

A: I grew up in big cities so never became much of a hunter or hiker. I was a skier for years, and love golf so much (even though I’m average, at best) that I bought a condo at Twin Lakes Village. I’m going to damage a lot of trees.

Q: What’s your No. 1 life accomplishment?

A: Yikes, what a question. I guess it would be lasting a long time in a profession that I believe is the soul of any democracy. Or writing 14 books. Or being a goofy Sagittarius who somehow keeps surviving. Oh, and making birdie on the island hole at The Resort. Magic. You get a signed certificate for it, and I kiss the thing on my way out the door every day.

Thanks for the interest, truly, and that’s WAY more than enough for today.

Let’s get back to you.

Remember to send your replies about your favorite books — that poll is going to run a while, and we’ll be discussing it.
