SUCCESS: Use words carefully

| April 6, 2018 1:00 AM

I think we, by accident and unintentionally, devalue one’s present state by suggesting they have potential for a successful future.

When I meet with people I wish to draw wisdom and insight from, I always ask them to define “their” perspective of success.

I then ask if they are reaching or have reached their potential. When we assert to another that they have potential to “be” something, someone, someday, we devalue their current state as though to celebrate their future standing.

If you see talent or potential, speak life into their present. They will grow and progress more and more if you speak life into their present rather than speaking hopeful life in their future. Success is subjective. Success is a journey. Traffic yourself in success. Don’t assume it’s a destination to reach or a time in life. It’s in the present if you wish it to be.
