GOP: Abe would shudder

| April 6, 2018 1:00 AM

Offering President Lincoln as an example, The Press editorial of March 28 urges us, when discussing politics, to be more civil and make more effort to understand those whose opinions may not be the same as our own. Good advice. We should always be civil, of course, but political opinions can be so hard to understand these days. I suspect it was easier in the time of Honest Abe than it is now with Dishonest Don in the White House. It’s hard to understand, first of all, how this lying, homophobic, narcissistic womanizer ever won an election to any office, much less the presidency. And on the Republican ticket yet? I mean this guy doesn’t exactly exemplify good ol’ GOP family values. Or even liberal values, for that matter. (It gets pretty ugly.) And yet, in a recent poll, 61 percent of Republicans gave Trump thumbs up as a good role model for their children!

How are we supposed to understand that? I believe there must be a lot of folks, across the board, wondering what in the hell is happening to the Republican Party. Maybe The Press could shed some light on that.
