SPIRIT LAKE — Tristan Clift struck out seven over six innings and also scored two runs, leading the Lakeland Hawks past the Timberlake Tigers 10-3 in a nonleague game on Wednesday at Timberlake High.

“Tristan pitched and played very well,” Lakeland coach Jason Bradbury said. “I was proud of the way he controlled the mound and threw quality pitches.”

Lakeland scored seven runs in the top of the sixth inning to break the game open after the team’s played to a 1-1 tie through five innings. Jaret Taylor walked twice and drove in two runs for Lakeland. Jack McDonald struck out five over 5 2/3 innings for Timberlake.

“Jack threw a phenomenal game, and Tristan threw great for them,” Timberlake coach Cameron Knigge said. “They strung a couple of hits together in the sixth. We didn’t play bad, but it was our first game since March 17. Lakeland just put the ball in play a few more times than we did, but I’m proud of our guys for fighting.”

Lakeland (7-5) is scheduled to play at Moscow on Saturday.

Timberlake (1-3) travels to Orofino for a doubleheader on Friday.
