Kathryn Ann Petersen

Kathy was born in Shreveport, La., on June 30, 1948, to Warren J. Petersen and Barbra R. Petersen. Being in an Air Force family, Kathy moved to many interesting areas in the U.S. and lived in Ohio in the 1950s. She lived in San Pedro, Calif., where she graduated from Redland High School in 1966.

Kathy continued her schooling, where she majored in science, math and social studies while attending San Bernardino Valley Junior College, in San Bernardino, Calif., from 1966 to 1967. To prepare for a rewarding career she took more studies at Fresno City College in 1967.

In the beginning she worked in child care and retail sales, taking classes at Redlands Adult School of Nursing Assistants, and applied her talents at The Beaver Medical Clinic with onsite training for a nurse’s aide with the head nurse. In 1969 she received her Certificate Nurse Attendant from North Idaho College and an additional certificate in 1977. She used her training in the private and professional fields. Kathy joined her sister in Anchorage, Alaska, in 1979, attending the Anchorage Community College for continuing her love of art.

She came back to Idaho to be a homemaker and nurse’s aide. During her gracious and generous life she was an extraordinary seamstress, scrapbooker and knitter of sweaters and afghans. She was also an outstanding bear sculptor with faux furs, customizing her own patterns with imaginative arms, legs and heads. Many were donated to Alaska Providence Children’s Section. Kathy also volunteered at the Coeur d’Alene Animal Thrift Shop.

Upon retirement she loved reading the Bible and listening to spiritual music, and loved her friends at Lakeside Manor, making new family connections.

She was preceded in death by a nephew, Joshua Howard. Kathy is survived by her sister, Ginny Jacober in Anchorage, Alaska; nephew, Matthew Howard in Anchorage, and best friend, Janet Ross of Coeur d’Alene. As per Kathy’s wishes no service will be held at this time. Please view and sign Kathy’s online guestbook at www.englishfuneralchapel.com.
