STUDENTS: Think on this

| April 4, 2018 1:00 AM

Dear protesting students. You have witnessed the horrors of crazed humanity … and you are afraid and plea for safety. Good, this means you are sane. But are you smart?

Imagine something far worse than these senseless murders. Imagine a government holding the weapons and killing anyone it chooses, in any way it decides and in massive numbers. Imagine a sanctioned crazed killer at your door and having no haven and no escape. Imagine enslavement ‘til death. This has happened frequently and it is still happening today.

All of you students enjoy serene lives in a country whose predecessors gained you this serenity through courage and sacrifice that few of you could comprehend. Before you think you know best about character, self-defense or right from wrong reread the history of modern genocides — then think hard about giving up your right to bear arms capable of offering you a choice to respond.

In Cambodia, genocide did not always use bullets. Often the government killed defenseless people with hammers. You can decide to be sheep, naive to real peril and there are many happily willing to march you to slaughter … or you can learn from history and remain a potent adversary. Life is no fairytale — really. Be afraid of being defenseless. Fear those who advise blind trust. Study before you assign support to others. Be thoroughly informed — not easily led.
