Cd'A police officer shoots man

One man was shot and wounded by police early today at an apartment on North A Street in Coeur d’Alene.

Coeur d’Alene Police did not release the name of the officer or the man who was shot, or whether the individual was armed.

According to police, dispatchers received a suicide call around 12:30 a.m. and officers responded to the apartment that is north of I-90 near Government Way.

“The initial dispatch comments that officers received was that the male said he had a gun,” Coeur d’Alene Police Detective Jared Reneau said in a press release.

When police arrived, a woman came out of the apartment and a man followed her.

“The male suspect followed the female outside and was non-compliant when contacted by officers,” Reneau said.

The man ran toward police ignoring commands to show his hands, and officers shot him with a beanbag.

“The beanbag round had little apparent effect,” Reneau said. “One officer fired his duty weapon, striking the male one time.”

The man was given medical attention by police and firefighters and transported to Kootenai Health, where he is being treated for a gunshot wound, police said.

“The male is expected to recover,” Reneau said.

The Idaho State Police is investigating the incident.
