Marian Engwer

April 23, 1923 — March 29, 2018

Marian Engwer went home to be with her Savior on Thursday, March 29, 2018. Marian was predeceased by her parents, John Dillon and Edna (Stariha) Dillon; her sister, Valerie Dillon; and her husband of 67 years, John Engwer. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Arlene Olson, and numerous cousins, nephews, nieces and friends.

Marian was born in Superior, Wis., where she graduated from high school. She met her husband, John, in Superior in 1944 while they were studying to become communication specialists — a crucial part of the homeland support of troops deployed during World War II. They married in 1945. After John’s discharge from the Army Air Corps in 1947, they moved to Moscow, Idaho, where John attended college to earn his degree in forestry from the University of Idaho. They moved to Coeur d’Alene after John graduated from UI in 1951.

Marian was a very talented artist, and enjoyed painting scenes on driftwood that she collected on the shores of Lake Coeur d’Alene. She specialized in paintings of all kinds of birds.

She was a longtime, active member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Coeur d’Alene, and for many years created so many beautiful crafts to donate to the church’s annual bazaars.

Marian was a very kind and nurturing person, but most of all, she will be remembered by her wonderful “Irish” sense of humor and storytelling capabilities. She was very proud of her Irish heritage, and loved this Old Irish Blessing.

“May the road rise to meet you.

May the wind be always at your back.

May the sun shine warm upon your face,

The rains fall soft upon your fields.

And until we meet again,

May God hold you in the palm of His hand.”

A rosary for Marian will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, April 6, 2018, at English Funeral Chapel, 1133 N. Fourth St, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 7, at St. Thomas Catholic Church, 919 E. Indiana, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, with a reception and graveside service to follow.

English Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Please sign Marian’s guest registry and view her online memorial at www.englishfuneralchapel.com.

In lieu of flowers, Marian’s family asks that you consider a donation to Holy Family School, 3005 W. Kathleen Ave., Coeur d’Alene, ID 83815, or to Shriners Hospital for Children, 911 W. Fifth Ave., Spokane, WA 99204.
