HOUSING: The Boomers' plea
Recently in The Press, there appeared a story describing how Boomers are hanging on to their houses and not selling them. It’s true.
I went to high school in Spokane County and see my Boomer classmates often. We are all looking for: one small story house, with a very small yard, on a paved street with city water and sewer, and city snow removal. Sounds easy, right? Not.
We would settle for a condo that is ground level with no stairs.
We can’t find either of these. The houses that are for sale are two-story at least, with huge yards, and stairs. The condos all have stairs.
There is a huge market out there of Boomers who want a no bigger than 1,000-square-foot house, all on one level, in a town or a city. We can’t find them. We all have houses we would gladly put up for sale if we could find what we need in the current housing market.
