Joseph and Susan Tomlinson, of Post Falls, have been called to serve a two-year mission to the Osorno, Chile, Mission in South America for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They will leave Oct. 20 and enter the Missionary Training Center in Provo, Utah, for one week before flying to Chile. After their arrival, they will have another week of training before they begin their work, which involves supporting members and leaders in whatever needs the people of Chile may have.

As a young man, Joe served a two-year mission in Argentina and Chile where he first became fluent in Spanish. He was a Spanish teacher for six years early in his career. Susan, formerly an elementary school and art teacher, will brush up on her two years of Spanish classes from college many years ago.

Osorno is in the southern third of Chile. It is about an hour’s drive west to the Pacific Ocean and an hour’s drive east to the Andes. This southern part of Argentina and Chile is commonly called Patagonia and is similar in climate to the northwest coast of the United States. Elder and Sister Tomlinson are excited to serve in such a beautiful country with people who are known to be wonderfully friendly and hospitable.
