EDITORIAL: A veteran's view
In my opinion, and I am sure many other veterans, were really insulted with the statements on that so called Editorial. Here is the reason why I say this. The following statements were made that need some clarification.
First, “NFL players put their health on the line when they step on the field, debilitating physical and mental injuries, particularly related to concussions, suggests that these guys are getting paid millions for accepting such high risk and for possessing qualities most of us can only imagine. Courage is certainly one of them.”
They all signed contracts for millions for about four years. Putting it into perspective, I also did that. I signed a contract for four years. Oh yeah, my pay was $79 a month. Then I was shipped off to foreign lands aboard ships of all kinds, wondering if and when we would all come home. If I kept my nose clean for a whole year, I would get a raise all the way up to $147. I think that would equate to the amount of time that a player has to tie his shoes.
I did this for this amount of money, to defend this country, and my flag. I am sick and tired of hearing about the First Amendment rights. To me that is being used as a cop out.
You NFL babies, want to really prove your point, go to Arlington and kneel, see how far you get then. Leave my flag out of it!
