At 25,000 feet above Nevada north of Las Vegas and going 356 mph, a Thunderbird pulls up to a Fairchild Air Force Base KC-135 Stratotanker for fuel on Thursday. A boom at the back of the tanker connects to the receiving receptacle of the Thunderbird to allow for midair fueling to achieve the Air Force's mission of “rapid global mobility.” The Thunderbirds were heading from Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas to Boise for a demonstration show this weekend.
