PREPS: Sportsmanship sacked

I was deeply disturbed by one quote in a recent Mark Nelke article about Coeur d’Alene High School’s football team.
In the article, one of the high school players was quoted: “We play nasty. We play with a chip on our shoulder, and want to hurt people.” (My emphasis added.)
If this is how our student athletes are being taught to play, there is a serious problem with the coaches and the school system!
Whatever happened to sportsmanship, teamwork, work ethic and all the other positive things athletics should be teaching our youngsters?
I am going to try to get this message to the proper people at the school. But, in case I don’t, I would hope that you would be able to do so. We cannot allow this mind-set to continue!
