NFL: Bench the grandstanders
America is far from perfect. Still, relative to much of this planet, America stands out bright and clear and remains — to this day — the dream of many who do not live here.
Yes, America has a deep history of racial troubles. We could have done better and most certainly could have done worse. Regardless, we are where we are and must move forward from here.
Everyone knows America has its sundry race problems. We do not need professional sports players demonstrating public disdain for their country to emphasize this issue. Racial discord is no mystery and these displays insult and aggravate more than serve to inform or enlighten. Show respect for America because America (like it or not) has done more good for more people than any country in civilized history.
America is not perfect and if these players cannot realize that they are not making America better, then they need to be removed and given time to reflect and mature. There are many players ready to play the game and keep their politics to themselves. Race issues are emotional and complex and this petulant grandstanding is shallow and useless.
