SMARTPHONES: Ban makes sense
Sunday’s editorial was right on about the review process to ban phones in school. It is a total cop-out.
These officials are the people who care about your children’s education, really! I’ll bet you these so-called officials are the same mature adults who go into a restaurant to eat and the first thing they do is both pull out their cell phones, to check for non-important things. You just have to love the bonding of eating with your phone.
If these mature adults have a problem with this, how on Earth can you expect teenagers to exercise any control? Want something to review? How about the hundreds, thousands of text messages the average teenager does in a day? You don’t have to have a master’s degree to see a problem.
So, is it the right of a teenager to have a cell phone or the right to an unobstructed education?
Maybe I am a little confused. After all, I did not get my first cell, flip-phone until I was 60 years old. “My god, how could you have lived?” you might be saying!
I must confess, after a few years, I did graduate to a slide out type phone, so it would be easier for me to text. I do not see an iPhone in my future, but then I am only 69 years old and as long as I have my Apple computer, I don’t think I will need one. It would be rather difficult to take my computer into a restaurant to eat with my wife. Even if I could, she would not allow it. Sometimes she treats me like a teenager.
