Ida Rose Pedey, 94
Ida Rose Pedey went home to be with the Lord on Nov. 2, 2017. Mom was born Dec. 9, 1922, in Frazer, Mont., to Ferdinan and Sarah Stelzer. Later they moved to Floodwood, Minn. She graduated high school at Meadowland High in Minnesota.
She married Howard Smith and they had three children. The young family traveled on the train to Coeur d’Alene in 1955. Howard and Ida divorced in 1968. Mom worked in housekeeping for many years at the Talk of the Town Motel, and then at Kootenai Memorial (Kootenai Health). She retired from the hospital in her early 70s, where she was loved by the obstetrical nurses for not only her attention to detail, but the friendships that she had made.
In 1976 she married Leo (Bill) Pedey. They were inseparable! She lost him that same year, and will be laid to rest with her beloved Bill.
She enjoyed working in her flower gardens and couldn’t wait for spring to get out in her gardens. Mom also loved music, teaching herself at a young age to play the piano, organ, accordion and violin. She was talented at making a multitude of crafts. She was a baker, making cakes including elaborate wedding cakes, breads, cookies, candy and caramel corn. Her pecan tarts were a special treat. She loved company and visiting; those that stopped by were rewarded with her homemade goodies. The grandchildren were often blessed with being able to assist with the baking of those special treats. She never had a desire to drive and enjoyed walking, but never turned down an opportunity to go for a ride to look at scenery.
Mom loved to travel, making trips to visit family and friends in Florida, Texas, Oregon, Nevada and Minnesota. Her greatest joy was spending time with family near and far. She had a beautiful smile that she shared with all. Although she had difficulty communicating the last months of her life, she was known by all as she always had a big smile and a hug for anyone passing by.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Pedey; seven of her nine siblings, Jake, Albert, Clara, Erma, Henry, Ester and Frank. She leaves behind her brother, Paul, in New Jersey; children, Cathy Larsen, in Reno, Nev., Beverly Carter, in Hayden, Idaho, Bruce (Diane) Smith, in Coeur d’Alene; grandchildren, Judy Larsen, in Reno, Sarah Bear, Jesse Smith, Brooki (Dan) Wilkerson, in Spokane, Wash., Scott Carter, in Coeur d’Alene; great-grandchildren, Logan Smith, in Austin, Texas, Shayne Smith, Ryen Giles-Smith, Quentin Smith, JJ Bear, Dianna Bear, Jacob Bear, Vanessa Larsen, in Reno, Brooklyn Wilkerson, in Spokane, Aspen and Kaitlyn Carter, in Coeur d’Alene.
