CHRISTIANS: Matters of faith
Surveys disagree on the percentage of church kids who leave the church after graduation. Or graduate from God.
One survey says 80 percent, which seems unreasonable. The latest Pew survey says 18 percent. Therefore the best case scenario reveals that one in five children graduate from God after high school.
There are no guarantees, but why would that not be your child? Clark Pinnock says, “The heart cannot delight in what the mind rejects as false.” In other words, the Christian who has a weak foundation for his faith can be easily shaken by the doubts of non-believers. I.e. Liberal college professors. (Def. A person who professes to be an expert.)
Having spent 18 years in Christian education, as a teacher and a principal, I have seen this firsthand. I regret I didn’t spend more time with my children and also regret not spending more time partnering with parents to equip their children “to always be prepared to give an answer to everyone that asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.” 1 Peter 3:15.
As Christian parents and grandparents we desire our children be equipped to do 1 Peter 3:15, but are we intentional? Are you sure your 10- to 12-year-old is prepared, especially in the world coming to them? Caveat: Pinnock also said, “God gives enough proof that faith is reasonable, but not so much that reason alone sustains faith.” There is much apologetic (defending the faith) material on the web. Children are making decisions based on the input you give them. God bless your efforts to equip your children to have an answer they can delight in.
