CONNER: Question of election

| November 3, 2017 1:00 AM

Does honesty matter? Absolutely, most especially for a public official.

Sam Conner is asking the Timberlake Fire Protection District residents to “re-elect” him as their fire commissioner. The truth be told, he was NEVER “elected” in the first place by the residents of the Timberlake district. The voters had no choice in who would fill the vacant commissioner seat he fills. This candidate was simply appointed two months ago by two of five commissioners. Such deception should disqualify Sam Conner from holding any type of public trust.

As Albert Einstein so wisely stated: “Whoever is careless with the truth in small matters cannot be trusted with important matters.”

Furthermore, Conner voted to approve a budget, which he obviously did not understand because it increased expenses by 15 percent while increasing revenue by only 3 percent. He astoundingly justified this decision by saying the budget is improving and will be balanced in three years, totally unaware the budget is getting worse, not better, when expenses grow faster than revenue.

When the fire commission’s meeting on Oct. 3 was held without providing any public notice, Mr. Conner made no objection. This candidate’s only qualification for the fire commissioner’s seat he seeks is he resides in the sub-district.

For qualified representation, vote for his opponent on Nov. 7.
