Harry Alexander Lauder, 85

Harry Alexander Lauder, 85, passed away Thursday, May 25, 2017, at Northern Idaho Advanced Care Hospital.

Born and raised in Detroit, Mich., the son of Don and Florence (Applegath) Lauder. In his early years, Harry and his brother would help deliver milk and other dairy products during the Great Depression for their father’s business. In 1949, as All-State Guard, he led Ferndale to the semifinals of the state tournament in East Lansing. He later played varsity basketball for the University of Michigan.

In 1950, he not only joined the USAF, he also met his first love, Carolyn June Porter and they married in 1951. During the years to come they had four children together. Harry loved being a husband, father and provider. While doing so, he successfully earned both his Bachelor of Science and master’s degrees and worked his way up the corporate ladder at Northrop Aircraft Division. Harry retired at 55 and traveled the world with his loving wife until her passing in 1990. They were married for 40 years.

Later in 1990, Harry was once again blessed and met his second love, Mary Agnes Mitchell. They married and Harry happily embraced her five children into his life. Harry and Mary traveled, they golfed and they loved and cherished each other for 26 years.

He leaves his wife of 26 years, Mary (Easton) Lauder; his daughters, Shelly Kowallis and her husband Lawrence Kowallis, and Sandy Elliott and her husband Mark Elliott; his sons, Randy Lauder, and Gary Lauder and his wife Carol Lauder; his stepsons, Jim Mitchell and his fiancée Chris Erickson, Vic Mitchell and his wife Sharon Mitchell, and John Mitchell and his wife Arlene Mitchell; his stepdaughter, Susan Buckley and her husband Bill Buckley; his sister, Dolores Husband; his brother, Don Lauder; his nine nieces, seven nephews, 24 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; and close friends.

Harry Lauder, a great man and loved by all will be greatly missed.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 1, 2017, at Yates Funeral Home and Gathering Center, 373 E. Hayden Ave., Hayden, Idaho.
