Arthur Richard Trenkle, 77

Arthur Richard Trenkle passed away peacefully on May 24, 2017, with his wife at his side.

Art was born May 27, 1939, in Minneola, N.Y., to Walter and Josephine Trenkle.

Over the years Art shared many happy memories of growing up on Long Island in New York. After graduation from high school, his spirit of adventure took him to California to discover a new life in the “West” and to start a family.

In his younger years, Art enjoyed motorcycle racing, music, outdoor and community sporting activities. He was instrumental in forming the first gun club in Thousand Oaks, Calif. His love of hunting and fishing brought him to North Idaho and in 1978 he moved his family to Coeur d’Alene.

He enjoyed a long and successful career in the floor covering business. Art spent many years wearing out his back and knees installing carpet. He often referred to himself as a “beat up old carpet layer.” He opened his first flooring store “Custom Carpets” in Thousand Oaks in 1961. He opened Fairway Floor in 1992, where he continued to work until shortly before his death. Art did not believe in retirement. He truly enjoyed the challenge of his work life. He held a deep appreciation for the support of his co-workers. He considered himself fortunate to be able to work with his sons and the amazing Fairway Floor Team.

He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, integrity, humor, and as a great story teller, a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather.

Art is survived by his beloved wife, Susan; daughter Diane Bowman (Eric); sons Gary Frost (Terry), Ronald Trenkle (Anne) and Richard Trenkle (Charlotte); grandchildren Shea, Christopher, Justine, Felicia, Angelica, Kera and Brielle; and eight great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his much loved and faithful Golden Retriever, Rusty.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Walter and Robert Trenkle; son Arthur Richard Trenkle Jr. and grandson Logan Trenkle.

If desired, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of North Idaho.

Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 3, 2017, at English Funeral Chapel in Post Falls, Idaho. A burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Post Falls.
