Lums win opener at Missoula tourney

| May 27, 2017 11:16 PM

MISSOULA, Mont. — Brett Stapleton handled the pitching and Levi Haen delivered the clutch hit as the Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen opened play at the Dale Dahlgren Memorial Day Tournament with a 5-3 victory over the Great Falls Chargers on Saturday at Lindborg-Cregg Field.

Stapleton scattered two hits over six innings for the Lumbermen (2-0), struck out five and walked three. Both runs he allowed were unearned.

“Everything he threw was down; he was very efficient with his pitches,” Coeur d’Alene coach Kevin Dunton said.

Haen hit a two-out, two-run triple in the second to open the scoring. Brady Thompson added an RBI double in the fifth.

“We drove three hours on the bus, got off and were real aggressive with the bats, and ran the bases well,” Dunton said.

Today, Coeur d’Alene plays the Vauxhall (Alberta) Academy of Baseball at 11:30 a.m. PDT and the Bozeman Bucks at 2:30 p.m.
