Prairie wins opener on walk-off
POST FALLS — Wyatt Setian’s third hit of the game, a single in the bottom of the seventh inning, scored Jared Porter with the winning run as the Prairie Cardinals beat the Spokane Crew 6-5 in their season opener Friday at Post Falls High.
Brock Zeller and Preston Benson each had two hits, including a double, for Prairie.
“They hit the ball great today,” first-year Cardinals coach Pat Call said. “As team we were great at the plate, staying disciplined, working counts in our favor and jumping hitter’s counts. An all-around good team effort.”
Sam Schulze struck out five in a complete game for Prairie.
“Schulze was great today,” Call said. “He just kept battling, keeping them off balance, giving us a chance to win.”
