COEUR d’ALENE — Matthew Gjevre delivered a two-run single in the third inning to put Coeur d’Alene in the lead, and the Lumbermen held on for a 4-3 win over the Spokane Northstars in their season opener on Wednesday night at Thorco Field.

“I was happy with how things went for the first game,” said Coeur d’Alene coach Kevin Dunton, who won in his first game as coach after taking over for Zach Clanton. “It was a well-pitched game by both teams.”

Justin Bates, Tanner Mueller, Cody Davenport and Brady Thompson combined to two-hit the Northstars.

“I was definitely pleased with our pitching,” Dunton said. “Everyone played tonight, and it was nice to see us play so well. It was a good starting point to see what we’ve got to work on.”

Coeur d’Alene travels to the Missoula Mavericks tournament on Saturday, facing the Great Falls Chargers at 1:30 p.m. at Lindborg-Cregg Field.
