Timberlake powers into semis

BUHL — After handling Filer 8-4 and Teton 14-4 on Friday’s first day of the state 3A softball tournament, Timberlakd (18-3) will face a familiar foe in the semifinal in Intermountain League rival Bonners Ferry.

“It’s kinda cool,” Timberlake coach Casi Reisenauer said of the all-IML semi. “Bonners is a good team.”

Timberlake wasn’t too bad, either, on Friday.

Against Teton, Glori Cheevers hit a two-run home run, and Shelby Starr added a grand slam to highlight a seven-run second inning.

In the first game, Shelby Salois struck out six and had a pair of hits. Matraca Rocheleau’s two-run single keyed a four-run first inning, and Madi Salois homered in the fifth.

“We just hit the ball really well today, and hit the ball hard,” Reisenauer said.

OROFINO — The Lumberjacks’ stay at the state 2A tourney was short, as St. Maries fell 7-6 to New Plymouth and 10-1 to Declo on the first day and was eliminated.

McKenna Borgman and Elizabeth Ragan each had two hits for St. Maries (6-11) vs. New Plymouth, which won with a run in the bottom of the seventh. Shelby Holder hit a two-run single for the Lumberjacks.

St. Maries was held to four hits in the second game by the Hornets.
