Valerie Kay Downs, of Post Falls, Idaho, met the Lord on May 11, 2017, at the age of 71 years, in South Carolina surrounded by family. Val was born June 4, 1944, in Portland, Ore., and her family soon moved to Burke, Idaho, where she grew up.

Burke is where she would meet Don Downs and marry him in July 1960 and had two beautiful daughters, Shannon (Larry) Bohanan and Carrie (Michael) Wilson. Val will be fondly remembered by her three grandchildren, Shawn (Jaclyn) and Cory Bohanan, and Brandon Wilson; great-grandchildren Charlie, Crosby and Jovi Bohanan; her sisters, Linda (Ed) Hunter, Denise Buck, Lori (Tom) Brownley and Shelly McMahan; her sisters-in-law, Roberta Ussleman-Manthos, Marie Lacorix and Cheri Stein; and brother-in-law John Walker. Valerie was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Evelyn McMahan.

All who knew Val would say she had a heart of gold and showed her compassion to the needy and by her generosity to always give. Val was a loving Christian, wife, mother and friend. She had a gifted creative side expressed on her toll paintings, quilting, sewing, arts and crafts, and did many craft shows. She was also a part of the Silver Valley Bible Study for 10 years and was a member to the Lake City Church.
