Cd'A, Post Falls boys in trophy hunt

Coeur d’Alene’s boys are tied for third, and Post Falls is just one stroke back in sixth place after the first day of the state 5A golf tournament Monday at Teton Lake Golf Course in Rexburg.

Coeur d’Alene, Hillcrest and Madison each shot 312. Post Falls shot 313. Eagle is in second at 310.

“We felt like we left a lot of strokes out there,” Coeur d’Alene coach Bryan Duncan said. “We played good at times, and we were streaky at times. But we’re still in the thick of it for a trophy.”

Defending champion Rocky Mountain of Meridian shot a 3-under 285 and leads by 27 strokes.

“They’re like a college team,” Duncan said.

Brayden Ogle of Coeur d’Alene is tied for seventh after shooting a 3-over 75. Cameron Flores of Post Falls is ninth with a 76; teammate Tanner Byers is tied for 10th with a 77.

Rocky Mountain junior Carson Barry, the defending champion and an Oregon State commit, shot a 3-under 69 for a two-shot lead.

Lake City’s girls are in fourth place after shooting 350. Centennial and Highland are tied for the lead at 334. Post Falls is sixth at 372.

Sami Dement of Lake City shot 80 and is in fifth place; teammate Emily Dodge is tied for sixth at 81.

Tourneys in all four classifications conclude today.

Kellogg boys lead

The Wildcats bolted to a 31-shot lead after the first day of the state 3A tournament at the Idaho Falls Country Club.

Cade Finlay of Kellogg is tied for third after shooting 77. Wildcats Tyler Gibbons (80) and Chase Jerome (82) are seventh and eighth, respectively.

Kellogg’s girls, the defending champions, are in second place after the first day after shooting 399, 10 strokes back of Buhl.

Kat Rauenhorst of Kellogg is tied for second after shooting 88. Teammate Kylie Robinson shot 95 and is tied for seventh.

Lakeside shot 405 and is in fourth place. The top four teams earn trophies. Defending champion Nampa Christian leads with a 391.

Cole Valley Christian leads the boys tourney with a 325, three strokes ahead of defending champion Nampa Christian.
