East champs sweep Cardinals in softball

COEUR d’ALENE — Visiting Wenatchee Valley swept North Idaho College 11-6 and 9-8 in Northwest Athletic Conference East Region softball play Sunday at Memorial Field to conclude the regular season.

Wenatchee Valley (32-10, 30-2 NWAC) won the East Region. NIC (29-15, 20-12) finished third.

Next up is the NWAC tournament starting Friday at the Merkel Sports Complex in Spokane.

NIC men second

after first day

BANDON, Ore. — The Cardinal men are in second place, six strokes back of host Southwestern Oregon, after the first day of the Southwestern Oregon Community College Invitational on Sunday at the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort.

Brady Nelson of NIC is tied for second after shooting a 2-under-par 69.

In the women’s tourney, NIC is in fourth place, 18 strokes back of first-place University of the Fraser Valley in Abbotsford, British Columbia. Madi Brown of NIC is tied for sixth after shooting 84.

Megan Cysewski of Community Colleges of Spokane, formerly of Lakeland High, is tied for the lead after shooting 79.

The tourney concludes today.
