| May 11, 2017 1:00 AM

Students from Coeur d’Alene High were named honorable mention for both yearbook layout and yearbook photo during the 2017 National Federation of Press Women national high school writing contest.

In the yearbook layout category, Allison Hensley, Sarah Minerath, Lindsey Meyer and Seth Lave were recognized for their “Sharp Shooters” design in the student yearbook.

“I really like the Q&A feature on the far right,” commented the judge.

Coeur d’Alene student Caitlin Troyer was honorable mention for her “Kick Start” photo in the yearbook.

“The photo has some good technical aspects going for it,” commented the judge. “The photographer made use of a high enough shutter speed to freeze the lateral motion of the player’s leg, and focus is on that same player.”

The Coeur d’Alene yearbook adviser is Bruce Twitchell.

The contest, sponsored by the NFPW Education Fund honors communication efforts of student journalists throughout the United States. Entries receiving first place in a state-wide contest advance to the national competition. Students in states without an NFPW affiliate sponsoring a high school contest can enter in an at-large competition.

An award luncheon to honor the students will be Sept. 9 in Birmingham, Ala.
