St. Maries second at districts, on to state

SOFTBALL

OROFINO — St. Maries opened the 2A District 1-2 softball tournament Wednesday by routing Grangeville 15-0, then earned a trip to state when Grangeville lost to Orofino in the next game.

St. Maries then lost to top-seeded Orofino 10-3 in the championship game to assume the district’s second seed to state, May 19-20 at Orofino.

Alexis Cobb went 3 for 3, scored two runs and drove in four in the first game for St. Maries (6-9).

In the title game, Kelsey Auer went 3 for 4 for St. Maries and Devyn Wilson knocked in two runs, but Orofino scored five times in the second and fifth innings.

MOSCOW — Behind Danny Torres’ three goals and three assists, the Timberwolves handled the Bears.

Cameron Chun had four goals and Devin Latrielle scored two gaoals to go with his two assists.

Lucas Briner had nine saves in the shutout for Lake City (11-2), which plays host to Coeur d’Alene on Tuesday for a berth to the state semifinals in Boise.
