RATHDRUM — You can help make a difference in a local high school senior's life simply by eating spaghetti.

The Hauser Lions Club is hosting its inaugural Bowls for Scholarships event from 5-7 p.m. May 19 at the Rathdrum Lions Clubhouse.

For only $15, guests will be treated to a spaghetti extravaganza and they'll get to keep the nifty hand-painted bowls in which their pasta will be served. The bowls were decorated by local artists at Hands to Art, a "paint your own pottery" studio.

"We just want to help these kids get an education," said Bowls for Scholarships chair and Hauser Lion Connie O'Neal. "The kids are the future of this country, and with an education, they will go so much further."

All of the proceeds from the event will benefit 14 high school seniors who reside in Hauser. O'Neal said the goal is to provide these students with $500 academic scholarships to help pay for college.

"Five hundred dollars isn't going to break the bank, but it's going to buy their books and it goes right to the school," she said. "Every little bit helps these kids."

The meal will include garlic bread, salad, coffee and water as well as wine and beer for those 21 and older.

The first 100 guests through the door will receive the keepsake bowl.

The Rathdrum Lions Clubhouse is located at 16114 N. Meyer Road in Rathdrum.
