Shirley M. McKenzie, 73

Shirley Marlene McKenzie “Shirleybug,” 73, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 3, 2017. Her heart to serve others and her devotion to her family were second only to her love of serving the Lord and her ministry of compassion for others.

Shirley was born July 3, 1943, in Chehalis, Wash., to Harry Baker and Leota ‘McEwen’ Baker. From an early age, Shirley found her greatest joys to be in church activities with her family and assisting with the care of her younger siblings. One of her greatest joys was in the raising of her own children, Richard, Michelle and Jon. Her Legacy of love, compassion and servanthood lives on in those children, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

After losing her husband, Duncan in 1994, she immersed herself in what was a familiar way of life by taking on the role of an in-home caregiver to the elderly, and found it to be gratifying to utilize her skills as a cook and motherly figure in that field.

Shirley is survived by her siblings, Darlene Chambliss and husband Sam of Roy, Wash., Leroy and wife Wilma Baker of Libby, Mont., Wayne Baker of Roy, and Joyce Thackeray of Zillah, Wash.; Shirley’s son, Richard and wife Ageriza “Riza” McKenzie of Spokane, Wash.; daughter Michelle and husband David Hoover of Spokane Valley, Wash.;, son Jon and his wife Jessica McKenzie of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; grandson Clinton and his wife Kaila McKenzie of Orlando, Fla.; granddaughter Kim Ray of Great Falls, Mont.; Kris Harrison of Great Falls; granddaughter Amber “Selvidge” Framstad of Spokane Valley; grandson Justin Selvidge of Spokane Valley; grandson Carson McKenzie of Coeur d’Alene; granddaughter MacKara McKenzie of Coeur d’Alene; Alpha McKenzie “Ty Ty” of Spokane; and great-grandchildren Ivy, Isaac and Brayden.

An open house memorial service and celebration of life for Shirley will be held from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, May 13, 2017, at Journey Ministries, 1042 W. Hayden Ave., Hayden, Idaho, for any and all friends and local family that may not be able to attend the memorial service to be held at the annual McEwen family reunion in Toledo, Wash., on June 24, 2017. English Funeral Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements. Please visit Shirley’s online memorial at www.englishfuneralchapel.com.
