Lakeland advances to title game

RATHDRUM — Brittany Charles’ two-run double put Lakeland ahead to stay in the sixth inning, and the Hawks went on to beat Moscow 11-7 in a loser-out first-round game of the 4A Region 1 tournament Tuesday.

The hit put Lakeland (7-10) ahead 8-7, and the Hawks went on to advance to today’s 4 p.m. regional title game at No. 1 seed Sandpoint (10-3). The game was moved up from Thursday due to weather concerns on that day.

Charles finished 3 for 4 with two runs and the two RBIs. Reilly Rivera went 3 for 4 and Mia O’Hara was 2 for 4 with three runs and two RBIs, including a solo homer in the second.

Moscow finished 2-14.

SPIRIT LAKE — The visiting Badgers won their second 3A District 1 title in three years, pulling away from the Intermountain League champion Tigers with 11 runs in the sixth inning.

Kadi Bateman shined in the circle and at the plate for Bonners Ferry (8-4), which advances to the state tournament May 19-20 at Buhl. Bateman went 3 for 5 with four RBIs, including two-run doubles in the third and sixth. She also struck out nine and scattered four hits.

“Bateman’s a great pitcher, and we had a hard time laying off her riseball,” Timberlake coach Casi Reisenauer said.

Glori Cheevers had an RBI double in the sixth for Timberlake (14-3), which plays host to Priest River on Thursday at 4 for a spot in a Saturday state play-in game. Priest River eliminated Kellogg earlier Tuesday.
