SOFTBALL: NIC suffers first-ever sweep to Spokane
COEUR d’ALENE — Don Don Williams has been North Idaho College’s head softball coach since the program’s inception in 1998.
Up until Wednesday, Williams couldn’t recall a time in which rival Spokane Community College put the broom to her club.
That changed with a flurry of Sasquatch hits at Memorial Field, as the Cardinals dropped the NWAC East Region doubleheader 15-13 and 19-4.
Spokane (20-18, 11-17 East Region) totaled 34 hits in the sweep.
“It was just a really poor performace in all phases of the game,” Williams said. “Those were some tough losses. But give Spokane credit.”
Ashlyn Bocook combined for 10 RBIs to lead Spokane and Madilyn Naccarato homered twice in the second game.
“Our pitching wasn’t great and we gave way too many runs,” Williams said. “We gave up 13 earned runs in the second game. We came through with some hits in the first game, but it wasn’t enough.”
NIC (24-10, 15-7 East Region) totaled 13 hits in the first game, including Kennedy Anderson’s grand slam.
McKenzie Schaller had five hits on the day for NIC, which travels to Walla Walla on Friday.
