POST FALLS — Temperatures rose, records fell.

North Idaho’s finest track and field athletes took advantage of the 83-degree weather Thursday at Post Falls High, posting career-best marks at the annual District I All-Star Meet.

Seven of the meet’s records were broken at the all-classification gathering, which featured the top 16 individuals in their respective event. The top eight relay teams also qualified.

Isaac Zavala of Bonners Ferry set the meet the record in the boys pole vault with a mark of 15 feet, 2 inches.

“I think that’s the record for the 3A classification, too,” Post Falls coach Wade Quesnell said of Zavala’s vault. “There were a lot records broken today and a lot of PRs. The weather definitely helped.”

Coeur d’Alene High boys were among the meet record-breakers, including Zac Magee in the 100 (11.00), Nate Burch in the 100-meter hurdles (14.75).

Post Falls sprinter Parker Walton set a record in the boys 200 (22.21) and Lake City’s Alex Ayers set the meet record in the 400 (49.08).

On the girls’ side, Coeur d’Alene’s Caitlin Conway set a meet record in the 1,600 (5:16.84). Post Falls junior Melody Kempton, a Gonzaga University basketball commit, set the meet record in the high jump with a leap of 5-7.
