SOFTBALL

LEWISTON — Bailey Gleaves drove in three runs, two with a third-inning triple, as the Post Falls Trojans beat the Lewiston Bengals 7-1 in the second game of a 5A Inland Empire League doubleheader Wednesday at Airport Park.

In the first game, Lewiston scored the last three runs, including two in the bottom of the sixth, for a 5-4 victory.

Allison Morris drove in a pair of runs in the second game for Post Falls (10-10, 5-7 5A IEL), and Brooke Bowers, who pitched both games, held the Bengals (4-13, 1-11) to four hits in the nightcap.

Post Falls will play Coeur d’Alene on Tuesday in the first round of the 5A Region 1 tournament. Lewiston will play at No. 1 Lake City.

COEUR d’ALENE -- Ashley Kaufman homered in both games and drove in six runs on the day for the host 5A Timberwolves, and pitched a two-hitter with eight strikeouts in the opener against the 2A Lumberjacks.

Reilly Williams homered in the opener, and Haley Loffer had a homer in the nightcap for Lake City (17-1), which plays at Coeur d’Alene today.

St. Maries (5-8) returns to action next Wednesday at the 2A District 1-2 tournament at Orofino.

PRIEST RIVER — It took all of 30 minutes for the Tigers to dispatch the Spartans in an Intermountain League game Wednesday at Priest River,

Timberlake built an 11-2 lead in top of the fourth inning last week, but the game was suspended because of rain. When it resumed Wednesday, the Tigers continued to roll, invoking the 10-run mercy rule.

The Tigers were paced by freshman Jack McDonald, who tallied five RBIs. Kobe Harris earned his fist varsity win on the bump, totaling eight strikeouts in four innings of work.

Timberlake (6-7, 6-3 IML) wraps up it regular season today when it travels to Lakeland.

COEUR d’ALENE — A strong effort in girls’ doubles, and a trio of three-set boys victories, helped the Vikings tie visiting Lewiston in a tennis dual meet.

CHS swept the girls doubles matches, and the Vikings’ No. 1 mixed doubles team of Brock Tanya and Kim Gunnerson earned a three-set win.

“It’s been an interesting week with weather and travel,” Vikings coach Laura Taylor said, noting her team traveled to Lewiston Monday and Sandpoint on Tuesday. “Both of my doubles teams played some great tennis today.”

In boys play, CHS won two three-set matches in singles and also notched a three-set victory at No. 2 doubles.

“Bayley (Throm) and Josh (Whitney) played a strong match and persevered at No. 2 doubles,” Vikings boys coach Dan O’Connor said. “And we had a freshman, Wyatt Gibbar, play very well in a roller-coaster match at No. 3 singles.”

Coeur d’Alene faces crosstown rival Lake City today, with the girls matches at LCHS and the boys matches at Coeur d’Alene High.

COEUR d’ALENE — Lake City blanked the visiting Bulldogs in convincing fashion Wednesday at Lake City High.

Zach Brown spearheaded the rout, totaling five goals and two assists. Cameron Chun recorded a hat trick to go with a pair of assists.

Goalie Lucas Briner was also big in the shutout with seven saves.

Lake City (8-2) travels to crosstown rival Coeur d’Alene High next Tuesday.
